Introduction

A wide variety of support and information services and materials are available throughout Canada. The types of services, however, vary from region to region. Your local unit of the Canadian Cancer Society will have information about the services available in your area. The telephone number for your local office is in the white pages of the telephone book.

The Cancer Information Service at 1-888-939-3333 also has information about community resources in your area and how to access them. The call is toll-free.

You should also ask your cancer centre to tell you about the services they provide and link to in the community. Your local public library may also have books and journals to lend that will help to explain cancer and people’s personal experiences with it.

Many cancer centres, local hospitals, and units of the Canadian Cancer Society also have lending libraries.

We have provided a list of books and videos that you may find helpful. Also listed are cancer centres, national and provincial Canadian Cancer Society offices, support groups, organizations, and other services. Some Internet resources are also listed.

The resources here are only a small portion of what’s available. Please remember, if you come across any information (brochures, books, and videos, for example) that conflicts with what your healthcare team tells you, contact them to discuss it.

The resource listing is categorized as follows:

What is "Cope with Cancer"? | How can I get a free copy? | What's to come? | Hot off the Press| Just for Kids | Resource Bank | Home
