Development
Cope with Cancer is a new computer CD-ROM designed especially for newly
diagnosed cancer patients. It was developed to help empower cancer patients
by providing information that can be accessed in the comfort and privacy
of a patient’s own home while still providing the opportunity to benefit
from inspirational experiences of other patients who appear on video.
Cope with Cancer provides fast, simple access to current information
about the illness, the effects of treatment, pain management methods
and goal-setting techniques in text and video format.
Content for Cope with Cancer was directed by an Advisory
Board comprised of leading cancer caregivers (physicians and nurses)
and patients.
The
Cope with Cancer CD-ROM was developed by Ed and Suzanne Marks and their
award-winning multimedia company, Digital Rain. The CD-ROM received
partial funding through a license agreement with SmithKline Beecham
Pharma, a leading Oakville, Ontario-based pharmaceutical company with
a growing oncology division. SmithKline Beecham Pharma has supported
the program’s independence throughout its development.
